The next Torah Study Group meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 6 at a private home in Reston. If you are interested, please contact us for more details.
Here's a brief rundown on the next meeting and future meetings: - Text and next session: Tanakh should be the main text, informed
by outside reading as a session leader thinks best, with session
participants providing whatever they want to add into the mix. Though
one person wanted to continue onward, reading Leviticus, nearly
everyone else was worried that would be too dry (at least for now).
Thus, for reasons noted below, the group decided to re-start TSG by
focusing on Nevi'im/the Prophets portion of Tanakh. We will start
with Joshua and move forward. The next session is Wednesday Jan. 6 at
Eileen Harahan's house.
- Future schedule: we sort of talked about meeting every 3 weeks or
so, and to schedule sessions on different nights of the Monday-
Thursday week so that people with standing conflicts on a given
weeknight won't be out of luck throughout. Locations will rotate. We
only booked the 1st session.
- Themes people want to focus on: This occupied most of our
discussion. Various people want to explore the spirit side and inner-
life as expressed in Tanakh; historical and political questions;
questions about who wrote this thing; and the big 'Why' that Judaism
presents. We decided that Prophets/Nevi'im might provide good source/
discussion material for addressing all of these.
